- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION - THIS IS NOT A NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL BUT INFORMATION AND PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY - RESPONSE DUE BY 31 MAR 12 Patrick Air Force Base anticipates a requirement for an electronic reading device. The North American Industry Classification Systems (NAICS) Code proposed is 334111. Background: Defense Equal Opportunity Institute (DEOMI) is a training institute with a mission focus on diversity and equal employment opportunity. Like colleges and universities, DEOMI uses technology to the maximum extent possible to enhance the learning environment keeping control of budget and environmental impacts. Because training material/information is constantly evolving or being updated, utilizing printed material for instruction is becoming more complicated and costly as well as environmentally wasteful. With initiatives to reduce paper consumption and streamline the process of providing training material revisions to staff and students, dedicated research of electronic reading devices is being conducted. Purpose: This request for information is to identify technological devices that can satisfy our detailed requirements for an electronic reading solution in whole or in part. As mentioned above cost and complexity will be used as critical screening criteria along with technical specifications listed below. Information Requested: This is the minimum information requested on suggested solutions: 1) Equipment model number w/spec sheet 2) Detailed list of hardware and software required in addition to the item listed in #1 for the solution to work and identify proprietary limitations if any 3) Answer the following: a) is any of the equipment approved for DOD use, if no, is the equipment being tested b) are there any DOD organization using the suggest product, if yes, please provide any releasable information on the organization and the contract itself 5) POC for follow up questions as needed Requirements: ****The devices will be organizationally owned and will be issued to students for the duration of training. Each device will be used/issued 4 or more times each year and after each issue, will be wiped reimaged and loaded with relevant course material as specified by the course.**** These requirements are in order of priority: 150-200 Durable devices 1) Portable/lightweight device (approximately 5lbs +/-, no more that 10 lbs) 2) display 7” or larger 3) must be able to display/read current MS Office (.doc,.xls, &.ppt) and media files (.wmv) 4) must be able to display/read adobe files (.pdf) 5) device must have the tools to take notes and highlight content viewed in documents from #3 & 4 (since this initiative is to provide electronic instructional material for students, they will require note taking ability that can easily be saved in the file for personal reference) 6) long battery life (minimum of 9 hours) 7) role based permissions (network admin must be able to prevent users from changing device security settings and critical configurations required for government compliance) 8) must be able to wipe and reimage multiple devices simultaneously 9) must be able to bulk load files (from #3 & 4 above) onto multiple devices simultaneously 10) minimum 1 year warranty covering parts and labor 11) renewable annual maintenance and service plans available up to 3 years 12) color display 13) expandable memory slot (prefer SD) 14) wi-fi (minimum of 802.11 g/n) 15) replaceable battery
