- Description
- The Department of Veterans Affairs, VAMC Providence has a requirement for services associated with rodent health monitoring plus surveillance testing. Sources are sought who have the technical and logistical resources to provide these services. Submit a capabilities statement (include your website) to cheri.wicks@va.gov no later than March 6, 2012. Provided below is a draft (subject to revision) Statement of Work for the required services. Approximately 24 tests are needed per year; a base of one year and four one-year options are anticipated. The Statement of Work for Mouse and Rat Health Monitoring (HM) Plus Services The vendor shall provide shipping crates at no additional cost. The vendor shall pick up live animals at no additional cost. (Boston, MA area) Euthanasia and a thorough gross mortem examination shall be performed. Any abnormalities are noted and tissue collected for examination by a trained technologist. In lieu of "rat respiratory virus (RRV)" histology, all rats are screened for Pneumocystis carinii via PCR (Pneumocystis spp. assay). The vendor shall collect serum for the detection of antibodies to viruses, bacteria and protozoa. The main method of detection is MFIA. The vendor shall examine Fur and Skin for ectoparasites. Phase contrast microscopy shall be used to detect enteric protozoa while direct examination of the intestinal tract is used to determine the presence of helminths. Direct detection methods shall be used for detection of parasites, protozoa and helminthes. A rat or mouse serological panel shall be run for all common rodent viral pathogens; agents shall be defined by the vendor. Determined by the nature of testing required, additional animals may be sent to the vendor to confirm positive results. Vendor Laboratory staff shall be AALAS-certified technologists and overseen by ACVP board-certified veterinary pathologists. In addition to routine health surveillance, the vendor shall provide prompt and thorough diagnostic necropsy evaluation of sick animals to assist in the detection of unexpected disease in laboratory animals. The Vendor's veterinary staff will review the history and devise an assessment plan that may include any or all of the testing services performed in accordance with industry standard specifications.
