- Description
- The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health, intends to solicit a contract with the University of Alabama at Birmingham to continue the study of audiometric assessments of infants to determine onset of hearing loss attributable to CMV. This is a unique scientific opportunity to take advantage of an established epidemiologic cohort on which extensive data has been obtained. This opportunity also takes advantage of the research study management infrastructure, such as specialized data entry, quality control, and data management systems developed to support the data collected in the study, already developed in the previous CMV contract (N01-DC-5-0008) with the University of the Alabama at Birmingham. The key elements of this project include: obtain information from ongoing newborn hearing screening and audiometric follow-up programs; audiometric follow-up and diagnostics for enrolled infants who are CMV positive asymptomatic /symptomatic with no hearing loss in the sample populations every 6 months; and maintenance of the biorepository. Authority: 41 U.S.C. 2539(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. Inherent duplication of cost to the Government that is not expected to be recovered through competition makes competition unfeasible for this solicitation. This is not a request for proposals, proposal abstracts, or quotations and does not commit the Government to any contractual agreement.
