Description
This is a modification to the synopsis entitled MASTER OSCILLATOR POWER AMPLIFIERARCHITECTURE which was posted on January 19, 2012. You are notified that the followingchanges are made: The Description of the previous synopsis is replaced in its entirety with the attachedwhich deletes the reference to 'Item B' and which incorporates Table 1.The due date for responses is not extended.Documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet. Thesedocuments will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWWbrowser application. The Internet site, or URL, for the NASA/GSFC Business Opportunitieshome page is http://prod.nais.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/eps/bizops.cgi?gr=D&pin=51 Offerors are responsible for monitoring this site for the release of the solicitation andany amendments. Potential offerors are responsible for downloading their own copy ofthe solicitation and amendments (if any).Questions/Responses1.The RFI states that the initial emphasis will be on a short-term demonstration efforton power scaling, yet the specification in Table 1 lists a single power output level of1 Watt. Please explain what is intended by power scaling. Does NASA intend to scale theEDFA output to higher powers than the 1 Watt specification? Does NASA intend to scale theEDFA to lower powers? The initial demonstration would be to take the seed laser (GFE) of output power nominallyin the power level listed in the RFI and power scale that to ~0.5 W (our projectedoperating average power). The 1 W listed in the Table is margin we seek for potentialthe amplifier.2.Please explain the difference between Output Energy Flatness vs Time and OutputPower Stability in Table 1.'Output energy flatness' refers to a requirement that in the event multiple channels(from different seed lasers) are used within the specified wavelength band, then theenergy output of these different channels shall remain constant. The 'output energystability' refers to the requirement that the energy output at a specific wavelength froma single seed laser shall be stable over the specified time duration.
