Description
The following is a clarification of the previous Sources Sought Notice: The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), at Rock Island Arsenal, IL 61299-7300, is currently seeking interested sources of existing methods, materials or processes of commercially available dunnage to be used in the repackaging and shipment of loose ammunition items. Such packaging and cushioning materials are required to meet International shipping and Military Tactical requirements for rough handling. The dunnage material and design must be able to be integrated into Army munitions packaging systems without loss or degradation of packaging, shipping performance or adverse impacts on the DOD logistics system. The individual pieces of ammo weigh between.75 and 4 lbs and are between 3.5 and 10.2 inches long. Dunnage must be able to support the shipping of multiple pieces of ammunition in one of three different sized ammo cans. The internal dimensions of the ammo cans are: 11 x 5-9/16 x 6-3/4, 17-1/4 x 5-1/2 x 9-1/2, and 17-1/4 x 7-7/16 x 13-63/64. The dunnage material must be able to function at temperatures between -65F to +160F and be capable of safely retaining the ammunition within the shipping container with minimal damage to the ammunition. Any dunnage considered for this project shall be fully recyclable or made from recyclable material. Interested firms should provide a detailed description of their commercially available dunnage system that meets the requirements above. The only new development of the proposed product should focus on fitting the listed inside dimensions provided. Interested parties should respond by February 29, 2012 to joseph.w.hanssen.civ@mail.mil. This survey is not a Solicitation, and should not be construed as such. Any costs incurred by a respondent in connection with this market survey will not be paid for by the government.
