- Description
- The USDA, ARS, US Meat Animal Research Center (MARC) in Clay Center, Nebraska is conducting market research for a backup and recovery system for servers and network storage at the location. The MARC computing infrastructure is typically multi-vendor and UNIX based. MARC is a government scientific research facility that has a broad research program in animal agriculture and includes significant programs in DNA sequencing, genomics and bioinformatics. It is intended that this market research will generate procurements within the next 30 days. Proposals and quotes from vendors are welcome. Proposals should be received by Friday, 20 January 2012. Proposals should mention federal contracts or designations in effect, such as GSA contracts, SEWP contracts, or 8(a) status. Proposals should include both hardware and software. Hardware should have a 3-year, next business day on-site response. Software should include technical support and product update rights for 3 years. Network attached storage at MARC consists of Isilon X200 (approximately 50 TB), EMC VNX 5100 (approximately 10 TB), an Apple X-RAID system and several UNIX servers with internal storage. A Sun server has a StorageTek 6140 array (approximately 14 TB). Two HP-Red Hat Linux servers host two Oracle 11g databases. Total storage capacity is currently less than 100 TB. The Isilon storage is expected to grow somewhat rapidly, perhaps double in two years. Other storage will have modest growth. Proposals should be able to accommodate this growth. Proposals that allow incremental growth to the backup system will be viewed favorably. The Isilon storage will contain a significant number of large files from DNA sequencers that never change. Thus, some type of archive or near-line storage may be of interest. Tape backups are currently used, but disk-to-disk backup is of interest. Deduplication software is of interest. Proposals may be emailed to Ms. Donita Furman, Purchasing Agent, Donita.Furman@ars.usda.gov, (402) 762-4145. We welcome opportunities to discuss products and configurations with vendors through video conference, teleconference, web meetings, or on-site visits. Questions may be addressed to either: Jim Wray, Jim.Wray@ars.usda.gov, (402) 762-4158 Randy Bradley, Randy.Bradley@ars.usda.gov, (402) 762-4156
