- Description
- The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Division of Violence Prevention (DVP) intends to award a sole source purchase order to The King Center, 449 Auburn Avenue, NE, Atlanta, GA. 30312 for the effort entitled, The King Youth Empowerment (K.Y.E.) Youth Violence Prevention Discussion Summit. The authority for this sole source is FAR Part 6.302-1. The NAICS code is 813410, Civic and Social Organizations. The work involved with this project is to conduct the King Youth Empowerment (K.Y.E.) Youth Violence Prevention Summit (the Summit). The Summit will focus on the non-violence teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr as applied to the problems of Teen Dating Violence, Bullying, Youth Violence, and Gang Initiation Rituals. The Summit will be held on January 7, 2012, to coincide with the month of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's birth, and will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. King's home. The King Center is the only responsible source capable of providing the King Youth Empowerment (K.Y.E.) Youth Violence Prevention Summit. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr was a civil rights leader, recognized proponent of non-violence, and community outreach leader. The King Center was founded to carry on Dr. King's legacy and share his teachings. The King Center holds the intellectual property rights to proprietary "Kingian" youth non-violence training. Since the Summit will focus on the teachings and personal philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this proprietary training is essential. No other organization can tie the philosophy of non-violence as exemplified by the life of Dr. King, to the issues of Teen Dating Violence, Bullying, Youth Violence, and Gang Initiation Rituals as effectively as the King Center. In addition, Dr. King's Civil Right's legacy gives the King Center unparalleled influence in the Atlanta community, the site of the Summit. Dr. King's Civil Right's work provides The King Center with particularly strong ties to Atlanta's minority community, many of whom stand to benefit from the Summit. The King's Center's unparalleled influence in the Atlanta Area will allow the message of the the Summit to have a greater impact on the community than would otherwise be possible. As a result of this synopsis, no competitive solicitation will be posted on FedBizOpps. We will issue only one solicitation to The King Center. However, firms that believe they can provide these services are encouraged to identify themselves and give written notice by providing a capability statement to the Contracting Office by December 16, 2011. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed action will be based on responses to this notice and are solely within the discretion of the Contracting Officer. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Inquiries shall be sent to Vallerie Redd by email at gfj3@cdc.gov. and reference solicitation #06329 on the subject line.
