Description
Combined synopsis/solicitation SF-1449 SCOPE OF WORK PLACE TOPSOIL AND PREPARE SITE FOR TREE PLANTING BROWNSVILLE, MN PLACEMENT SITE  1. The Brownsville placement site is located east of State Highway 26 in Brownsville, MN (see attached map). Areas marked in red are to be planted in a variety of trees in order to form a visual screen between the placement site and surrounding homes. The area to receive topsoil is estimated at approximately 1 acre. 2. The contractor shall cover the areas shown on the map with topsoil to a depth of 12 inches compacted in place. Soil will be graded to a uniform depth and shall be reasonably free of soil clumps greater than 2" diameter, soil composition and acceptance subject to inspection of a sample. Soil shall be reworked if necessary to eliminate clumps. Topsoil shall consist of friable soil, capable of generating acceptable plant growth, reasonably free of grass, roots, weeds, sticks, stones or other foreign materials. Topsoil material furnished under this specification shall be obtained from the soil horizons normally designated as "A" or "B" as defined by the Soil Science Society of America, or shall be obtained from alluvial deposits. Topsoil shall be free from herbicide residues, plant parts, and seeds of noxious weeds. The topsoil material proposed for the project shall be accepted by the government inspector prior to placement. Soil composition should contain an organic content of 2 to 6 percent and be classified as a loam or sandy loam as specified by the "Guide for U.S.D.A. Soil Textural Classification". 3. The contractor shall furnish proposed topsoil material sources for review by the government inspector, who will determine acceptability of use on the project. The contractor is responsible for researching and acquiring rights to topsoil sources and the furnishing, hauling, and placement of the topsoil. 4. Approximately 150 yards of government provided topsoil is stockpiled adjacent to the area to receive topsoil. A total of 1613 yards of topsoil are required to cover the outlined area in one foot of topsoil. The contractor is responsible for providing 1463 yards. 5. Payment shall be lump sum to include hauling, placing, grading and reworking the soil to eliminate clumps if necessary. The government shall collect sample cores to ensure that a minimum depth of 12 inches of topsoil has been achieved prior to authorizing payment. 6.
