- Description
- The Klamath National Forest plans to hand release competing vegetation on approximately 2,500 acres of National Forest Land, located on the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll and Salmon River Ranger Districts, Siskiyou County, California. Because the sites will soon not be available for viewing due to snow and freezing temperatures in the areas, contractors are encouraged to view the area to evaluate the conditions; maps will accompany the solicitation when issued. The work is segmented into two areas: Item 1 - Happy Camp/Oak Knoll RD and Item 2, Salmon River RD. Award will be by line item with the potential for multiple awards. Work will include hand grubbing and chainsaw release of recently planted seedlings from competing vegetation within a 3 foot radius of planted trees. Release spacing work areas average 50-200 seedlings per acre. Perform release on a 14 by 14 foot spacing, releasing no more than 222 trees per acre. Release competing vegetation within 3 feet of the tree seedling, removing competing vegetation, brush and hardwoods, specifically deerbrush, snowbrush, oak, madrone, and chinkapin. CONTRACT TIME: 60 calendar days PROJECT LOCATIONS: All work will take place on the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll and Salmon River Ranger Districts of the Klamath National Forest. Project location maps will be available at the scheduled site visit. Accessibility: Project areas may be reached by Forest Roads and are accessible by standard two-wheel drive pickup during the normal operating seasons. Four-wheel drive vehicles equipped with snow tires and chains may be necessary when snow, mud or ice is abundant in the project area or on four-wheel drive roads. SCHEDULED SITE VISIT: A pre-bid tour is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. Prospective bidders are to meet at the Happy Camp Ranger District Office, 63822 Hwy. 96, Happy Camp, CA. From I-5 travel west on Hwy. 96 approximately 63 miles to Happy Camp. SOLICITATION ISSUANCE: A commercial items solicitation is scheduled to be issued on or about November 15, 2011 with a due date of December 7, 2011. The contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies and incidentals to perform all work except those designated in the contract as Government-furnished. The contractor will be required to wash all vehicles, trailers, and equipment before entering the District(s) and before going to the release sites, to remove dirt and mud (especially from the undercarriage) to prevent the spread of Port Orford-cedar root disease, sudden oak death or noxious weeds.
