- Description
- The United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) intends to award a sole-source purchase order in the amount of $61,325.00 for Puppet Enterprise Software Support to Reductive LLC (Puppet Labs, Inc.) 222 NW Davis St, Suite 321, Portland, OR 97209-3900 for one year of Puppet Enterprise Support & Maintenance for 250 Nodes, Puppet Labs DevOps Consulting with Quick Start, and Puppet Lab Bootstrap in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 (only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements). The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is 511210. This is not a solicitation nor will a solicitation be issued in regards to this announcement. Therefore, no RFQ will be issued as a result. In accordance with FAR 6.302-1, Pupper software is created and maintained by Puppet Labs (formerly Reductive Labs). Puppet Labs, Inc. is the software developer and is therefore the only source available that can provide the required software maintenance and support, training, and consulting. The requirement is as follows: Puppet is a system for automating system administration tasks. Puppet software consists of a declaration language for expressing system configuration, a client and server for distributing it, and a library for realizing the configuration. Puppet software is an embedded component of Red Hat cloud computing stack. USPTO has a need to expand the use of automated system management beyond the functionality provided in the embedded Puppet software. The USPTO environment contains over 600 servers for which these tools would be used. It is more cost effective to expand the use of Puppet software instead of adding another management tool to provide the same function. Brand-Name Justification USPTO is pursuing a requirement on a brand-name basis for Puppet Enterprise Software Support from Puppet Labs to support automating centralized management for virtualization and cloud computing environments. Puppet software is an embedded component of the Red Hat cloud computing stack. Puppet software is needed to help maintain continuity of service to leverage the current investment in Red Hat Enterprise Linux and related products. No other brand of software will seamlessly integrate into the existing USPTO system. As Puppet software is proprietary to Puppet Labs, there is only one source that can provide the required services. Primary Point of Contact: The point of contact for information regarding this sources sought request is Shellie Eaton at (571) 272-5146. Responses can be sent to the USPTO, Office of Procurement, via E-Mail referencing the Synopsis # PTO289P1151062 to shellie.eaton@uspto.gov no later than (NLT) 5:00 P.M., local time of the Contracting Officer, Alexandria, VA on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.
