Description
Requirement #1: The RFI says "The NW EUD device allows connection to multiple IP based radios". We assume "multiple" here refers to the fact that the NW EUD can be connected to a variety of different IP based radios, and not that a given NW EUD is connected simultaneously to several different radios. Gov't Response (9/14/11): Correct, means connected to a variety of different IP based radios one at a time. Requirement #1: The RFI notes that NW EUDs are connected to radios and other transport devices "to provide position location information and other SA/C2 message information overlaid on geo-reference maps". We assume that position location information and other SA/CS message information are just examples of data that can be received by this device, and that other data can and will also be received. Gov't Response (9/14/11): Correct. Requirement #2a: The RFI says the NW EUD includes "Government provided Android based software". We are unclear what this means. Does it refer to a specific version of the Android operating software used in NW EUC that is provided by the government? Or does it refer to "Government provided battle command & Graphic User Interface (GUI) software" presumably running on Android mentioned in Question #5 of the NW EUD Questionnaire? We assume it does NOT refer to a specific Android version which will be used by NW EUC developers to integrate into the product. Gov't Response (9/14/11): Refers to Government provided battle command, GUI, and other applications. Requirement #2b-i / #2d: The RFI says "Smartphone or Smartphone like device (repackaged smartphone technology)". If the device selected has built-in GSM or CDMA capability, must it be removed? What about built-in Bluetooth or WiFi capabilities? Note that Requirement #2d calls out integration with "emerging cellular networks to include public switched commercial networks" but again it's unclear whether the NW EUC might do that directly or not. Gov't Response (9/19/11): No, existing cellular radios do not need to be removed, but note that the Government is interested in the newer network standards (LTE, WiMax) and compatibility with 4G networks. Bluetooth and WIFI do not need to be removed but security needs to be addressed. Requirement #2b-I /ix: Does the 2 pound limit include both internal and external batteries? Are the batteries listed in 2b-ix - Rifleman Radio Liberty Battery, LI-145, LI-80, Conformal Battery - considered to be the same external battery described in Requirement #2b-I, or different batteries? Gov't Response (9/14/11): The 2 pound limit would include an internal battery if included. The external battery reference in #2b-I is the same as 2b-ix. Requirement #2b-viii: Is RS-232 required? Is the intent to pass TCP/IP traffic over RS-232 with a tactical radio? If so, is PPP (RFC 1661) support assumed to be necessary? Gov't Response (9/19/11): RS-232 is required and it is the intent to also be able to pass TCP/IP traffic over RS-232. PPP support is not necessary. Requirement #2b-vii: Do shock and vibration requirements only apply to a mounted device (i.e. in a vehicle or garrison)? Gov't Response (9/14/11): No, since it also has to survive when soldier uses it outside of the vehicle. Requirement #2b-ix: We assume the "conformal battery" listed here is the Soldier Conformal Rechargeable battery developed by CERDEC, Army Research Lab, and NSRDEC. Correct? Gov't Response (9/14/11): Yes Questionnaire #5: Does the "Government provided battle command & Graphic User Interface (GUI) software" described here already run on the Android platform? Gov't Response (9/14/11): Yes, and the vendor also needs to discuss how the vendor's solution also allows the Government to provide the final software image to be loaded on the NW EUD versus the vendor loading the Government software. Gov't Response (9/14/11): Yes, and the vendor also needs to discuss how the vendor's solution also allows the Government to provide the final software image to be loaded on the NW EUD versus the vendor loading the Government software.
