- Description
- UBC Question 001: What is the max number of batteries that is envisioned to be charged simultaneously or what is the max current requirement? The following is stated in the sources sought: The universal, man portable and vehicle mountable, battery charger for use in austere operational environments should be: "capable of charging a minimum of 6 [LI-145 or LI-80 batteries, or Conformal batteries (GlenAir interface)]; or 8 Thales AN/PRC-148 Batteries, or 8 Harris AN/PRC-152, or 16 Rifleman Radio AN/PRC-154 batteries or 2 BB-2590 batteries or a combination of the aforementioned batteries. Additionally, it will have USB power output ports (for smart phones and tablets) with a minimum of 4 Standard A USB 3.0 (for power only) 1 Amp 5V power receptacle ports. This capability can be saleable for weight and size as needed for Warfighter portability. " "Versatility - the charger shall have both the ability to interface to multiple AC and DC power sources. AC sources would be from 90 to 240 VAC 50-60 Hz. DC Sources could be from 50 Watt Solar source to 100 to 300 Watt power sources with 10 to 33 VDC for sources such as fuel cells and vehicle power." Response: The maximum number of batteries is defined above (16 Rifleman Radio AN/PRC-154 batteries and 4 Standard A USB 3.0 (for power only) 1 Amp 5V power receptacle ports.) Based upon available power, the above may have to be charged leveraging smart battery charging algorithms. The maximum current allocation to charging ports should be based upon the power available (50 / 100 / 300 Watts) available at the charger input and what is then needed by the attached configuration of batteries. This is up to the individual vendor as to proposed implementation.
