- Description
- NASA/LaRC has a requirement for space qualified parts from Digital WaveCorporation, 31 B225.5 ultrasonic sensors (with 0.75 tall casings) and 31 PA20preamplifiers, that work with these sensors and that are equivalent to space qualifiedsensors currently used on the ISS. These items will be used to support phase onetesting for the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM), which will be launched to theInternational Space Station during phase II. NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Digital Wave Corporation of CentennialColorado. NASA has previously certified this model of sensors for flight. At this time, there are no other sensors and parts that have the identical specifications that havebeen certified for space flight on the ISS. The cost to certify new sensors from thiscompany or any other company for flight would be prohibitively expensive compared to thecost of the sensors. This contractors experience with ultrasonic sensors for spaceflight is unavailable from other contractors. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon 26 September 2011. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for thepurpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and opencompetition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretionof the government.Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.NASA Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable. The installation Ombudsman is C.Thomas Weih, 757-864-2426.
