- Notice of Intent to award sole source contract. This is not a solicitation. The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Providence, Rhode Island (VISN 1 Contracting 650/90C intends to negotiate and award a contract for research consultation services to consulting firm. D. King, Beverly, Massachusetts (DUNS: 791215689). The purpose of the contract is to further the on-going VA research program Stress, Health, and Aging Research Program (SHARP). The research project is titled: "Effects of exposure to traumatic events and other stressors on mental and physical health among aging military veterans". The research is described as follows: The goal of this research project is to examine risk and resilience factors among aging Vietnam veterans. Topics of interest include: 1) Determining the degree to which Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) mediates effects of trauma exposure on health over the lifespan, 2) Determining if PTSD treatment alters the impact of PTSD on health in later life, and 3) Examining the nature of late-onset stress symptomatology (LOSS) and its effects on health. The contractor shall provide the following: psychometric, research design, and statistical consultation to the SHARP research team; act as liaison between SHARP Research Team and other entities; conduct own studies of issues related to stress and aging among veteran cohorts within the SHARP framework; design studies using available longitudinal data; mentor postdoctoral fellows and junior research staff concerning all aspects of the research process, and present SHARP-related work at conferences. A base term of six months and a six month option is under consideration. Total contract value is approximately $99,000.00. The authority for this action is FAR 6.302-5 Only One Responsible Source.
