- Description
- The following questions were received by the Corps. 1) For most hazmat storage building applications, four-hour fire resistive construction is required only when the facility is attached to a structure or it is located within 10 feet of another building or property line. Two-hour fire resistive construction is usually sufficient when the hazmat facility will be located more than 10 feet from another building or property line. If your site can accommodate this separation distance, the two-hour fire resistive construction is your best choice for outdoor locations since it provides more weather resistance, costs less, and weighs less. Please confirm whether you need two-hour or four-hour fire rated construction. ANSWER: 4 HOUR SINCE WE ARE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE 10 FOOT DISTANCE LINE FROM OTHER LARGER BUILDING. 2) The drawing included with the solicitation, shows a building with a single double door 60" wide x 80" high. Section 2.1 states " Two lockable self closing fire rated doors". Is this description intended to be for the double door shown on drawing or do you require two of the double doors? This section also refers to "door handles". The drawing shows only a single handle as the type of door shown typically has locking handle on the 'active' leaf which is used for personnel entry with the other 'passive' leaf normally closed except for loading large items. This type of double door also typically only has a self closer on the active side, not the passive side. Please confirm whether you require two double door sets or just one. And indicate whether both door leaves are to have handles with locks and self closers on each. ANSWER: THIS SIZE BUILDING WOULD REQUIRE TWO 60 x 80 DOORS BUT ONLY THE RIGHT DOOR WILL NEED TO HAVE A HANDLE AND ONE LOCKING SET. 3) The current version of the National Electric Code (NEC) requires that a weatherproof electrical outlet be installed anytime an A/C or heating system is provided with a building. Please confirm if this building must be supplied with an exterior electrical outlet with an appropriate in-use weather cover. ANSWER: YES. 4) For most hazmat storage building applications, the current version of the International Building Code (IBC) requires that the interior of each active door must be equipped with UL-Listed panic bar hardware to ensure easy egress in the event of an emergency. Please confirm if the interior of the active door must be equipped with UL-Listed panic bar hardware. ANSWER: YES. 5) For most hazmat storage building applications, the current version of the International Building Code (IBC) requires that the building must be equipped with a UL-Listed emergency local alarm system including a panic alarm button and corresponding exterior audible alarm. Please confirm if this building must be equipped with UL-Listed emergency local alarm system. ANSWER: YES. 6) Interior shelving with 2" lip is specified. Material of construction is not specified. One manufacturer typically furnishes adjustable shelving with stainless steel shelf pans with 1" lip on all sides to provide maximum chemical and corrosion resistance. The 1" lip facilitates loading and off loading containers compared to a 2" lip which require the operator to lift containers to higher level to clear lip. Please confirm if adjustable stainless steel containment shelving with 1" lip may be supplied for this building. ANSWER: STAY WITH THE 2" LIP AND IN STAINLESS STEEL. 7) Natural ventilation with adjustable insulated covers is specified. Both two hour and four hour fire rated construction require the use of air inlet vents equipped with automatic fire dampers rated at minimum 1.5 hours for 2-hour construction and 3 hours for 4 hour construction. Please confirm if this building must be supplied with appropriate automatic fire dampers for the corresponding building fire rating. ANSWER: YES. 8) Removable galvanized floor planking is specified. No load rating is specified for this flooring. One manufacturer typically installs heavy duty galvanized floor grating with a 500 pound per square foot load rating. Please confirm if the flooring for this building must be rated for 500 PSF. ANSWER: YES, 500 LBS PER SQUARE FOOT LOAD.
