- Description
- This is a small business set-aside. Please see the attached Application package for further details. The National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF) at Federal Aviation Administration William J. Hughes Technical Center is the primary airport pavement testing facility for the Federal Aviation Administration. The 1.3 million pound NAPTM is a one-of-a-kind machine capable of simulating fully loaded taxiing aircraft. It features ten, dual-wheel loading modules capable of applying hydraulic loads of up to 75,000 pounds on each wheel during pavement testing. The NAPTM travels on 1,125-foot-long rails located within the NAPTF. Although the NAPTM is capable of achieving a speed of 15 MPH for selected experiments, pavement testing is typically conducted at 2.5 MPH to better simulate aircraft taxiing speeds. This Screening Information Request (SIR) seeks an engineering study to install new Mitsubishi Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) technology to allow for greater system efficiency. Mitsubishi controls are preferred to maintain overall system compatibility with the existing drive control configuration. The study shall include the option to provide a regenerative braking upgrade to the drive system. Power generated through regenerative braking can be used for other research and development activities currently performed at the NAPTF. When responding to this Screening Information Request, each offeror is required to submit a written proposal in accordance wit hthe requirements of the Screening Information Request. All questions must be emailed to Elizabeth Ford, at Elizabeth.Ford@faa.fov by 2 p.m., local time, 9/9/2011. No questions submitted over the telephone will be permitted. FAA William J.
