Description
The Army is constantly increasing the C4ISR/EW and vehicle health and status monitoring capacities of the ground vehicle fleet subsystems. Increasingly, the Army has the desire to integrate these vehicle subsystems to provide the local users system status and relevant data. The next logical step is then to provide this information (or a subset of it) to other participants on the Army wide area network. In order to do so, the ground platforms will need to add networking infrastructure and protection mechanisms on each vehicle. It is expected that these mechanisms will include a router function, network encryption capability, a Firewall function, an Intrusion Prevention/Detection function and the necessary physical/electrical/logical connections to the vehicle Local Area Network (LAN) as defined be the Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability (VICTORY) Standard Specification Version 1.0 and the Wide Area Network (WAN) (e.g. military data radios). As these are vehicles with severe limitations, the proposed solutions must be optimized for size, weight, and power (SWAP) while still being able to operate reliably in the extreme environment of a ground combat vehicle. Currently, in most cases, these subsystems on the ground vehicles are commercially off the shelf procured or developed as stand-alone 'Bolt On' systems.
