- Description
- The Department of Veterans Affairs National Acquisition Center, Hines, IL will be holding an informal exchange of information for MANUFACTURERS of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) on September 22, 2011 at the: Department of Veterans Affairs National Acquisition Center First Avenue, One Block North of Cermak Road Building 37 Hines, IL 60141 Each vendor will be given 45 minutes to present their product. There will be a question and answer period following the presentation. Please contact Adrienne Albachiara (adrienne.albachiara@va.gov) (708) 512-7383 to schedule your time slot no later than September 9, 2011. The Wound Care Integrated Product Team (WCIPT) is seeking information on FDA approved Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) devices for use in all Network medical facilities nationwide during this pre-solicitation conference. NPW T units/devices should be in compliance with industry standards, have FDA clearance for all three care settings (acute hospital, extended care and home care), and be in regulatory compliance. The WCIPT is interested in the clinical aspects of the NPWT devices which will be represented, and the team will focus primarily on the use, function, application, and research base for the represented devices. Thus, it is requested that only manufacturers of NPWT devices present at this conference and that they come prepared to address and demonstrate these clinical elements. Minimum Technical Requirements: MTR1: Manufactures most current Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) unit MTR2: Delivers vacuum assisted pressure to wound bed MTR3: Promotes formulation of granulation tissue MTR4: Foam or gauze based dressing application MTR5: Unit/device safety alarm; (e.g. low battery, blockage, leakage, loss or decrease of prescribed pressure setting) MTR6: Therapy delivery modes' continuous and/or intermittent MTR7: Product size adaptability: lightweight (<13 pounds), able to be secured to IV pole system, bed, or carried by patient MTR8: Battery powered for transport; battery life in excess of 4 hours The VA WCIPT recognizes there are several different models of NPWT units available. Please reference as many as you like, but please make certain to clarify which unit you are describing. Please provide concise, succinct answers to each question in electronic format. Supporting literature may also be provided but is not a substitute for specific answers for the outlined questions. Please provide answers to each of the following questions as required. Dressings 1. Describe the types of dressings available and sizes available that work with your NPWT System. 2. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of these types of dressings. 3. Describe how the dressing that is in contact with the wound influences the wound base and contraction. 4. Cite any references you have for clinical studies or testing completed that compares how granulation tissue or wounds respond to your particular dressing composition in comparison to other NWPT wound dressings. 5. Are individual pieces of dressing sets, if supplied as such available for purchase separately? Adhesives 1. Describe the types of adhesives used to achieve a seal with your NPWT System dressing. 2. Describe how a seal for NPWT is achieved with your NPWT System. NPWT Units 1. Describe the alarms that are standard for your NPWT System. Please include information such as what features cause/sense leaks and other problems to alarm, sensitivity of alarm sensors, etc. 2. Describe the size and weight of the NPWT System. 3. Describe how unit is able to be attached to bed frame or IV pole. 4. Describe negative pressure ranges available on NPWT System. 5. Are continuous and intermittent negative pressure available on unit(s)? If only one, please identify which one and explain reasoning for offering only one option. 6. Describe the types of tubing required for connection for NPWT for unit(s). Please include information regarding how tubing assists with establishing a seal, if tubing is sensitive to application technique, etc. 7. Does NPWT System require a canister? If so, please describe sizes (volumes) of canisters available, degree of odor control offered, whether canister is a closed system (i.e. does not require emptying and can be disposed of as one consumable item), isolyzer included, etc. 8. What is the battery time span/range and what influenced the choice of this time span? NPWT Unit Information Screen 1. Please provide a succinct summary of how programming of NPWT unit is completed, ease of programming, pros/cons of unit, etc. 2. What patient-centered issues were factored into the design for programming? 3. What clinician-centered issues were factored into the design for programming? Service and Educational Support 1. Describe the service the Department of Veterans Affairs could expect from your company for NPWT support issues, including delivery times, service/repairs, etc. Please include a listing of where your service and distribution centers are located within the United States of America and surrounding territories. 2. Describe what types of educational support your company offers for your NPWT devices/units. Miscellaneous 1. Describe any future upgrades or changes that are being considered to improve your current NPWT System. 2. Describe what features of your NPWT System currently are most problematic or challenging. 3. Describe what features of your NPWT System currently are most beneficial and rewarding. 4. Explain the options available for renting and/or purchasing your NPWT System. 5. Where are your consumable products made/manufactured? 6. Where are your NPWT devices made/manufactured?
