- Description
- Announcement of Opportunity: Transfer Optics Substrates The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA), on behalf of the National Solar Observatory (NSO), is soliciting proposals for the Transfer Optics substrates fabrication for the proposed Advanced Technology Solar Telescope (ATST), which will be located at the project site at Haleakala Observatory, Maui, Hawaii. The selected firm shall design and fabricate 3-4 liquid cooled Transfer Optics substrates with sizes ranging from 200mm to 450mm diameter. The substrates are to be fabricated from optical grade Silicon (single crystal 1-0-0) with integrated coolant manifolds. The design shall include thermal and mechanical performance analysis of the substrates including the specific coolant manifold layout for each substrate based on specifications given by AURA. The finished substrates shall have mounting and coolant supply interfaces and optical surfaces suitable for optical polishing. Firms interested in also supplying the optical polishing as a part of the substrate fabrication shall indicate such in a letter of interest. AURA is seeking to pre-qualify firms who are interested in submitting a proposal for the ATST Transfer Optics substrates. Parties interested in receiving the Request for Proposal documentation for these procurements must first complete and submit the Pre-Qualification by email (ATSTproposal@noao.edu) not later than 3:00 PM MST, Friday September 16th, 2011. The questionnaire can be accessed at: http://atst.nso.edu/contracts. Accompanying the Questionnaire shall be a one page letter of interest referencing Announcement of Opportunity No. N048410. The letter shall include the physical mailing address, telephone number, fax number, and email address for a contact person. Qualified parties will be provided access to the RFP documentation. AURA and the ATST Project are constructing this 4-meter solar telescope on Haleakala in Hawaii under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation.
