Description
Prequalification Announcement - Reference No. 977 GENERAL CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS SOUGHT Subject to conditions prescribed by the University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, responses to the University's prequalification documents for a Lump Sum Construction Subcontract are sought for the following project: User Test Bed Facility (UTBF) Project Reference No. 977 To be performed at: Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory LBNL) One Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA 94720 Prequalification of Prospective Bidders: The University has determined that firms who submit proposals for this project must be prequalified. Prequalified firms will be required to have a valid California B - General Building Contractor license for the work. Other licenses, C-36 Plumbing Contractor and/or C20 Warm-Air Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Contractor, and C10 Electrical Contractor, appropriate for the scope of work, may be held by lower tier subcontractors. The goal of the UTBF project is to provide research facilities dedicated to the study of low-energy integrated building systems. These system integration studies will include, but are not limited to, building envelope and fenestration systems, electrical, HVAC and lighting systems. General Description of Work: Provide all labor, material, tools and equipment to complete all work as described in the plans and specifications for the construction of seven unique research test beds (4 new construction testbeds, and 3 testbeds that involve retrofit work inside Bldg 90) and their support spaces dedicated to the study of low-energy integrated building systems. The scope of work includes: Demolition and removal of the existing temporary trailers in front of Building 90 and provide related site and utility infrastructure work. Construct approximately four new construction test beds (each 600-1,200 sq feet), consisting of various special features such as highly insulating envelope components, a rotating test bed, low energy façade and lighting systems, integrated controls hardware and protocols etc., and provide retrofit construction for three testbeds to be located in Bldg 90 on the basement level, 1st and 4th floors of the building. The building will be occupied during the construction. The work is also adjacent to main pedestrian walkways and other occupied structures. LBNL has very high standards for construction safety and will vigorously enforce all safety regulations. Therefore, contractors must have a proven record of safe performance on past construction projects. Estimated Price Range: The current estimated construction cost range is $7.6 Million to $8.6 Million. Prequalification Package Due Date: Completed prequalification packages, 1 original and 4 copies, are due by Friday, August 19, 2011 at 3:00 PM (PDT), bound and delivered, with electronic copy, per the instructions listed in the prequalification document. Construction Performance Period: On-site work is estimated to begin in January 2012 and be completed in April 2013.
