Description
Drawings Z- Deadman CDNST Trail Project Location. The Deadman Reconstruction Project is located in the Italian Peaks Recommended Wilderness Area southwest of Dillon, MT. Directions to the project from Dillon are as follows: Travel South on I-15 to the town of Dell Take the Dell Exit 23 and Turn Left on the frontage road. Turn Right approximately 1.5 miles from the exit onto Big Sheep Creek Road. Follow Big Sheep Creek Road for approximately 19 miles to a junction with the Bannack Pass Road No. 951. Continue heading west towards Nicholia Creek. Drive approximately 9 more miles on the county road to a junction with Road No. 3927 towards Deadman Lake. Turn Right onto Forest Road No. 8269 drive through the creek and up the hill (rough drive) for approximately four miles towards a gate and sign near the top of the hill. After the approximate 4 miles a warning sign indicates that you should not park at the bottom of the hill if you suspect rain in the forecast. There have been several instances when people cannot get their vehicles up the hill due to clay soil and steep grades. If there is no fear of rain, drive to the bottom of the road and park near the lake. (This section of road is less than one mile, and might just be easier to hike, your choice.) Stakes at the lake are for an MCC project. The contract begins 1.5 miles into the MCC segment at the crest of the hill on the southeast side of the lake. Description of Work. The Deadman Reconstruction Project will include the construction and reconstruction of three miles of trail located along the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Work will include clearing and grubbing, excavation, dip construction, switchback construction, one shallow stream ford, stake refreshing, furnish and install both directional signs and CDT placards, and trail obliteration. Construction Magnitude is between $25,000 and $100,000 Performance period is estimated at September 15, 2011 thru October 15 2012.
