Description
The Textile Materials Evaluation Team at Natick Soldier research, Development and Engineering Center is responsible for the testing of Shelters textile materials for their effectiveness in blocking out light. A need exists to revise the existing test methodology to include measuring of lighting conditions that are more in line with the lighting sources used in shelters. TMET is currently seeking to review existing data and equipment for the determination of Light Blocking Effectiveness (LBE) also known as opacity of textile materials as well as development work performed to date. Contractor shall determine necessary modifications and work with NSRDEC and other equipment users to determine the precision of the measurements and prepare a test method for acceptance by the American Association of Textile Chemist and Colorists (AATCC)-Committee RA-36 - Color Measurement Test Methods. Contractor personnel must have an in-depth understanding of textiles, physics and electrical engineering. Expertise in these areas is essential for the development of an opacity test method. In addition, the contractor must be knowledgeable in the determination and development of precision and bias statements which are essential for AATCC approval of new test methodologies as well as familiar with the rules and procedures of AATCC. Contractor experience with developing test methods and carrying them through the AATCC Committee acceptance process is also essential.
