Description
The US Geological Survey, Central Energy Resources Science Center (CERSC), Energy Resources Program, Denver, CO has a requirement for a new gas chromatograph/magnetic-sector organic mass spectrometer (GC/MS) system capable of high mass resolution (>3000) to replace an existing JEOL GCMate GC/MS. Small business sources are sought for a gas chromatograph/magnetic-sector organic mass spectrometer (GC/MS) system capable of high mass resolution (>3000) that meets the following requirements. REQUIREMENTS: 1) The mass spectrometer (MS) shall use multiple ion focusing lenses to provide efficient ion transmission and to allow focusing in both the vertical and horizontal dimensions. No more than one quadrupole lens potential need be tuned to optimize peak shape for low or high resolution operation. 2) The MS mass range must be at least 1000 u at full accelerating potential with a maximum scan rate of 0.1 seconds/decade over a mass range of m/z 20 to m/z 700 (exponential down-magnetic field scan).3) The ion source must be of electron impact (EI) design with the capability of ionizing organic compounds with a potential of 70 electron volts, producing positively charged ions. Mass analyzed ions can be detected by a discrete dynode electron multiplier or by conversion to photons detected by a charge-coupled device (CCD). 4) The MS must be capable of performing Selected Ion Monitoring for up to eight ions at a mass resolution of 3000 by accelerating voltage switching with a dwell time for each monitored mass of between 50 milliseconds and 500 milliseconds. 5) The MS must have MS/MS capabilities consisting of: a) Argon atom collision induced dissociation (CID), and b) selected decomposition monitoring (SDM) for at least three parent ions of any particular daughter ion within the mass range of the instrument. 6) The vacuum system must be fully computer controlled and use a combination of rotary and turbomolecular pumps. Vacuum for the MS must consist of differentially pumped ion source and analyzer sections, utilizing two turbomolecular pumps. The turbomolecular pump on the ion source must have at least 190 L/s pumping capability; the turbomolecular pump on the analyzer must have at least 50L/s pumping capability; the rotary pump must have at least 50 L/m pumping capability. 7) Maintenance and periodic replacement of consumable items of the MS must be able to be performed by the user. The vendor shall provide documentation detailing the process of periodic replacement of parts. 8) Data system must be multitasking (data acquisition and data examination / reduction can be performed simultaneously) with at least 500 gigabytes of hard disk data storage and at least 1 gigabyte removable disk archival data storage (i.e. DVD burner). Computer must be a PC type with at least 6 gigabyte of random access memory. Software upgrades will be offered at no cost for the life of the instrument. 9) The Gas Chromatograph (GC) oven must be temperature programmable with at least 2 (two) different temperature ramps and variable start and end isothermal time intervals - temperature range from sub-ambient (approx -30 C) to at least 350 C. The oven must accommodate fused silica capillary columns up to.32mm (i.d.) X 60 m (l.) wound on hanging wire mountings up to 18 cm in diameter and 7 cm depth. 10) The GC must be equipped with an autosampler capable of injecting 1 to 10 microliters of sample dissolved in organic solvent with no waste of any sample solution. The autosampler must be capable of using 32 mm long by 12 mm outside diameter sample vials (2ml capacity, or 100 microliter capacity with insert), either crimp-top septum seal or screw-top septum cap. The autosampler must work with direct or split/splitless injection onto a 0.32mm i.d. capillary column. The autosampler must be able to hold minimally 30 samples and allow for unattended sample injections. The USGS is in search of small business firms who are able to provide the above mentioned supply/service. Small business firms who feel they can furnish the required supply/service or its functional equivalent (based on criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such other materials, which correspond to the required supply/service stated herein. This information will be used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. POC: Lisa D. Hayes, U. S. Geological Survey, P. O. Box 25046, MS-204, Denver, CO 80225, e-mail: ldhayes@usgs.gov
