- Description
- SLAC seeks vendors that can provide the following specifications for a high voltage solid state modulator that is to power a SLAC Model XL-4 klystron. The klystron shall be provided by SLAC. The modulator shall have a socket on the top of the pulse transformer's secondary taps, to accept the klystron. 2.0 System Scope, Topology & Modulator Package Design: 2.1 System Scope: The modulator system is to include prime power supplies (480 VAC mains), redundant switch modules, control/interlock system, and fractional-turn transformer in an oil tank with integrated klystron socket. 2.2 Modulator Topology: Inductive adder/fractional-turn transformer topology incorporating only solid state switching. 2.3 Switch modules: Transformer primary to be powered by parallel, redundant modules. Module output <4 kV. 2.4 High voltage insulation: Ambient air or solid dielectrics will provide all electrical insulation except for the transformer and klystron socket which shall use mineral oil. 2.5 Transformer Oil Containment: In the unlikely event of any tank oil leakage, the proposed modulator shall provide a secondary container tank to be mounted under the modulator frame, with sufficient volume, so as act as a full catch basin, and prevent any oil escape from the system. 2.6 Cooling: LCW (Low Conductivity Water) and/or ambient air (<30 ºC) 2.7 Klystron Heater: Transformer shall incorporate bifilar leads to power klystron cathode heater, 0.5 kW max. 2.8 Current and Voltage Diagnostics: Calibrated diagnostics to measure the klystron current and voltage are to be incorporated into the oil tank. 2.9 Operational Experience: Manufacturer must be able to demonstrate prior, successful experience with design, construction and installation of modulators to power a SLAC XL klystron. 3.0 Operational Parameters: The proposed modulator shall have the following operational output parameters. Pulse Output: 3.1 Peak Power: 158 MW 3.2 Average Power: 55 KW 3.3 Voltage: 450 KV 3.4 Current: 350 A 3.5 Pulse Repetition Rate: 120 Hz 3.6 Pulse Width: 1.0 µs 3.7 Flatness: 0.5% 3.8 Rate of Rise: 300/420 kV/ µs (min/max) 3.9 Amplitude Stability: <50 ppm (rms) 3.10 Trig Delay: 1.2 µs 3.11 Pulse/Pulse time jitter:<10 ns (rms) 3.12 Pulse width time jitter: <10 ns (rms) Filament Output: 3.13 Max Voltage DC: 20 VDC 3.14 Max Current DC: 30 ADC 3.15 Current Regulation: <1% 4.0 Modulator Power Efficiency (Wall Plug to Modulator Output): The proposed modulator shall demonstrate, at the operational parameters as stated in paragraph 3.0 above, an overall power efficiency of < 70%. THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT ONLY AND IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTE OR OFFER TO BUY. VENDORS INTERESTED IN BEING CONSIDERED AS A POTENTIAL SOURCE SHOULD IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS AN "INTERESTED PARTY" VIA THE FBO PORTAL. DO NOT CONTACT THE SUBCONTRACT ADMINISTRATOR. ANY PROPOSAL THAT IS SENT AS A RESULT OF THIS POSTING WILL BE DISQUALIFIED UPON RECEIPT. TECHNICAL QUESTIONS WILL BE ADDRESSED.
