Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) intends to award a sole source fixed-price purchase order to Telonics, Inc. under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)), Simplified Acquisition Procedures for Two (2) Upgraded TGW-4689H GPS/Argos radio collars, Six (6) New TGW-4689H GPS/Argos radio collars, Eight (8) CR-2A collar release mechanisms, Ten (10) Release Mechanism Upgrades (from previous collars) AND shipping services to Anchorage, AK 99508.Telonics transmitters have been deployed on polar bears in Alaska since the early 1980's. Telonics has continued product development and refinement over the course of this long term research project so that their product is presently uniquely suited to our particular application. The units are hermetically sealed to eliminate moisture problems. The transmitters are cold tested and built to operate at -40F. Recent design changes to the collar belting to reduce neck wear of animals are being field tested this year. These collar features are unique to this manufacture. Telonics satellite transmitters have a full warranty and can be refurbished repeatedly, thus decreasing overall costs. The polar bear project has used this equipment for over 20 years. Data integrity, consistency and efficiency are all served by continuing to work with the same products. Project personnel have invested considerable time designing collar programming, data downloading and processing methods that are compatible with the format of Telonics products. The agencies that work on the populations of polar bears adjacent to our study area also use Telonics collars. This uniformity allows for seamless monitoring of collar equipped polar bears across the region when needed. NO SOLICITATION OR REQUEST FOR QUOTE (RFQ) IS AVAILABLE FOR THIS PROCUREMENT.Notwithstanding, any firm that believes it is capable of meeting the USGS requirement as stated herein may submit a capability statement, proposal, or quotation, which shall be considered by the Agency (FAR 5.207(c)(16)(ii)).
