- BackgroundThe Department of Interior (DOI), National Business Center (NBC) is looking to test trial JCL software for additional capabilities within the z/OS Operating System environment. The NBC currently runs Pro/JCL Software.This notice is a market survey only and is for information, testing and planning purposes. It does not commit the Government to any contractual agreement. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS OR REQUEST FOR QUOTE. The Government will not issue an award based upon vendor responses to this announcement. The Government shall not assume any costs for preparing or submitting any information in response to the market survey or the Government's use of the information. Any proprietary information should be clearly identified as "proprietary information". The purpose of this trial is to reduce costs and add missing capability. Vendor(s) must be able to participate in a remote session via NBC's WebEx Account, to validate configuration and ensure integration with the NBC.Product Requirements: "Must execute from our current IBM z/OS 1.12 platforms."Must be compatible with future releases of the z/OS Operating System."No LAN or server base solution, only executable from the z/OS environment."Must be able to work with IBM's Job Control Language (JCL) both in Batch and Foreground mode."Must be able to execute our JCL examples with your software. "Easy to install / maintain / upgrade"Ability to easily turn on/off a debug mode. The 'debug' should provide additional information about the JCL error in question.."Must be compatible with BMC's Control-M scheduler product. Specifically, the product needs to be able to correctly resolve CONTROL-M variables embedded with the JCL, including CONTROL-M system variables and those affected by scheduling parameters."The product needs to be able to resolve Control-M variables that are defined within a CONTROL-M Job Schedule (using the SET VAR command), and are referenced in the JCL. Questions regarding the vendor and their product: (Vendors need to address each question, in their responses.) "Are they any z/OS hooks/mods needed for the installation of your product?"Is the product available by Electronic Download? (via website or FTP site)"Can the product validate DF/DSS Control Cards, Sort Control Cards, FTP Control Cards?"Other than a REXX API, does the product offer an "easy to use" automation language to assist with Mass JCL change and JCL standards enforcement?"Does the product offer batch and online JCL, Proc, Program and Dataset, cross reference reporting. Does the online query reporting capability require DB/2? Is cross reference reporting an added cost item?"How does your product compare to competitive products in CPU and Clock Time utilization?"How complex is the installation?"Do you require a Started Task?"Does the product require a reinstall for basic update or bug fixes?"How long does it take the vendor to respond to basic enhancement or customization requests? Examples?"How many new product implementations have you delivered in the last 12 months? Did you replace an incumbent vendor? Why?"Per your license, are there a maximum number of concurrent users?Timeline goals:"Vendors will be notified of the Governments choice, by close of business on July 15, 2011"Trial install is scheduled to begin on July 18, 2011. "Testing to start July 25th. "Training to be conducted on July 26th - 28th, 2011. Vendor response must include the following: "State capabilities of software."State product, version and technical information."Explain any software pre-requisites for running the trial software."State license model and maintenance model."Pricing and cost of ongoing maintenance costs."Duns number. "Company name and address with point of contact, email and phone number."Specific and relevant information related to the requirements of this project that will enable the Government to determine the capabilities of the company."Vendor responses shall not exceed a total of twenty (20) pages, singles-spaced, 1" margins, font size Times New Roman 12."Submit response electronically to Jackie_L_Wabschall@nbc.gov, no later than 12:00 pm (MST) on July 8, 2011."Questions regarding this RFI will be accepted until June 28, 2011, close of business.
