Description
Purpose for the Request for Information (RFI): This is not a solicitation for contract. The purpose of this request for information (RFI) is to survey Industry, Academia and Other Government Agencies (OGA) in order to collect information and data that would establish industry capabilities in support of a wrap around immersive capability. Companies, universities and agencies interested in pursuing opportunities with the U.S. Army are invited to respond to this RFI. Wrap Around Video Capability: -Should consist of (but is not limited to) either a multi-projector system for a small room to project on walls or have a 360 wrap around screen. -Should have edge blending or seam blending capabilities. -Should be low cost. The main goal is to have a visually immersive screen or projector system at a low cost. -Should have a fairly small footprint. -Should be a high resolution system. Options of resolution vs. cost should be available. -Should have brightness options so that it can be used in a fairly light environment. -Should be able to be set up and calibrated easily or automatically. -Can either support square or rounded edges (corners or curved screens). -Can have the ability to project on the ceiling and/or floor. Additional Capabilities: Additional capabilities are welcome, such as: -Touch screen capabilities - 3D sound systems - Infrared detection capabilities - Subtle wind generation systems to provide the feeling of being outdoors - Subtle scent capabilities to reinforce visual proximity to ocean, grass, rain, etc. - Any system or capability that will provide a more immersive training environment Industry, Academia and OGA Response Guidelines: The following are suggested guidelines for the type of information that would be most useful: 1.Provide diagrams, video, or screen shots as appropriate to describe the capability. 2. Provide an explanation and demonstration of an example wrap around system. This can be via video if necessary. 3.Describe your company or organization's applicable developments, existing prototypes and systems fielded to the military or sold in the commercial market as it relates to this RFI. Provide brochures, spec sheets, pictures and video clips of the system in use. 4.All information submitted is covered under 18USC 1905 and will not be shared outside the Government. For security reasons, please DO NOT submit material on memory devices that interface to USB ports, e.g. thumb drives, etc. Submit information on compact disks (CD) and/or Digital Video Disks (DVD). Please limit submission to 8 pages or less. This is not a solicitation for a contract. Development and publication of a technology roadmap does not constitute Army / RDECOM/STTC direction to start any contractual efforts. However, industry, academia and other government agencies are encouraged to participate in this survey and to provide any type and amount of information deemed appropriate. The Government representative will provide feedback to all submissions. All responses should be sent to Ms. Tami Griffith at tami.griffith@us.army.mil no later a close of business 11 July 2011. Key Word Search: Wrap around display, immersive display
