- Description
- This is a modification to the synopsis entitled COMMON INSTRUMENT INTERFACEWORKSHOP FOR EARTH VENTURE INSTRUMENTS which was posted on March 25, 2011. You arenotified of the following workshop update. NASA announces the upcoming Common Instrument Interface (CII) Workshop 2, scheduled for24 June 2011 in Pasadena, CA.The Earth System Science Pathfinder Program is a strategic investment by the ScienceMission Directorate (SMD) Earth Science Division (ESD) that includes a series ofrelatively low-to-moderate cost, small-to-medium sized, competitively selected, PrincipalInvestigator-led missions and instruments that are built, tested, and launched in a shorttime interval that accommodate new and emergent scientific priorities. The CII Study Activity supports ESD by identifying a common set of instrument interfaceguidelines for Earth Science instruments that will improve the success of theseinstruments becoming secondary payloads on missions of opportunity and reduceinstrument-to-spacecraft interface complexity. Building upon the success of Aprils CII Workshop 1, this one-day event provides an openforum for spacecraft developers, Earth Science researchers, Instrument developers, andthe CII Team to discuss interface capabilities and instrument needs. This workshopcontinues to shape the CII guidelines that will help inform the Investigators who will bedeveloping the instruments for NASA.Specific objectives include:Sharing an overview of the CII project and its anticipated productsResponding to feedback from Workshop 1Reviewing the trade space and technical guidelines developed to date for thePower, Mechanical, Thermal, Environmental, and Data interfacesExploring the unique considerations that distinguish Geostationary Earth Orbitfrom Low Earth Orbit profilesObtaining additional technical feedback from science and technology leadersAs they are finalized, NASA will post additional workshop details on the CII Workshopwebsite:http://science.nasa.gov/about-us/smd-programs/earth-system-science-pathfinder/common-instrument-interface-workshop/.Requests for further information and questions may be addressed to Mitra Dutta, EarthScience Division, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, 300 E Street SW,Washington, DC 20546; Phone: 202-358-4579; E-mail: sanghamitra.b.dutta@nasa.gov.
