- Description
- Sampling and Stable Isotopic Analysis of Walrus Teeth. The U.S. Geological Survey Alaska Science Center, has a requirement to perform stable isotopic analysis of individual growth layer groups (GLG) from walrus teeth. This is in support of tasks related to USGSs Changing Arctic Ecosystems Initiative. This particular solicitation is part of a larger project to evaluate the status of the north Pacific walrus population off western Alaska. The principle focus of this intended order is to use analysis of stable isotope profiles within the first 5 growth layer groups (GLGs) of walrus teeth to estimate weaning age in Pacific walrus. Four time periods will be compared: (1) 1962-1972, (2) 1975-1985, (3) 1992-1998, and (4) current/recent times using the most recently available tooth samples. The proposed contract activity consists of two primary tasks: prepare, extract and isolate sample material from the 5 GLGs of each provided sample tooth; and, prepare, conduct, and report the results of carbon (13C) and nitrogen (15N) stable isotope analysis from each growth layer group (GLG). Proposals are being requested and a written solicitation has been released. The solicitation number G11PS00404 is issued as an RFQ in conjunction with this announcement. This requirement is not set-aside, NAICS Code 541712 size standard 500. Place of performance is contractor facilities, and period of performance is from award through 30 Nov 2012. Interested parties should contact USGS immediately to obtain copies of the subject requirement documents and attachments. Contract Specialist D. Shannon (916) 278-9342 dshannon@usgs.gov.
