- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seeks to continue its use of standard vocabulary in the Health Level Seven (HL7) Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) implementation specifications under development for reporting healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) data from healthcare facilities that use vendor infection control surveillance applications to CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Phase IV of the CDA for HAI reporting project extends technical guidance for reporting HAIs, previously developed in Phase III of the project, to a new set of reporting requirements. These reporting requirements include vocabulary needed to convey HAI data in accordance with (1) NHSN specifications, (2) healthcare informatics and information technology standards, and (3) Public Health Information Network Vocabulary Access and Distribution System (PHIN VADS) requirements. Our current contract with Latana Consulting Group (former Alschuler Associates) covers Phase IV and provides for the maintenance needed to insure that all work products developed for HAI I - IIII are kept up-to-date with the programs evolving requirements for collecting HAI data using NHSN. Thus, modifications to forms and files updates needed to convey HAI data in accordance with (1) NHSN specifications, (2) healthcare informatics and information technology standards, and (3) Public Health Information Network Vocabulary Access and Distribution System (PHIN VADS) requirements. Lantana Consulting Group's unique qualifications include its contributions to the rapidly maturing CDA standard for health data exchanges; direct involvement in Health Level Seven (HL7) Structured Documents Technical Committee (SDTC); being a HL7 board member; and extensive experience developing and advising federal agencies on the use of HL7 STDC specifications for Clinical Document Architecture (CDA). Based on the above, we believe that no other source, but Lantana Consulting Group in East Thetford, VT can realistically meet our needs. Therefore, a modification to existing contract No. 200-2010-33893 to add this work is contemplated. The period of performance for this work is May 13, 2011 to July 11, 2011.
