- Electrophysiology Precious Metal Recovery Program Statement of Work INTERESTED VENDOR: PLEASE IDENTIFY SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS 1. Title of Project: Recovery of platinum and other precious metals from Electrophysiology Catheters, Angioplasty Guidewires, Electrophoresis Electrodes and other medical devices containing precious metals. 2. Scope of Work: The contractor shall provide all resources necessary to accomplish the deliverables described in this statement of work (SOW), except as may otherwise be specified. The purpose of this Statement of Work is to locate a contractor who can provide recycling and recovery of precious metals from medical devices such as, electrophysiology catheters, angioplasty guidewires, and electrophoresis electrodes for the James A Haley VA Hospital (JAHVH). The contractor will receive sterilized, platinum/gold/other precious metal containing, disposable medical devices via mail. The contractor will recover the precious metals from these disposable medical devices and provide the JAHVH with a minimum of 70% of the dollars recovered from recycling the precious metals. 3. Background: The JAHVH completes a number of electrophysiology procedures, which involve the use of catheters containing platinum/other precious metals. Currently, JAHVH is disposing of these catheters, containing precious metals, with typical medical waste. In order to reduce the environmental impact and to recover dollars associated with the purchase of these catheters, JAHVH is implementing a precious metal recovery program; as a result, JAHVH is seeking to locate a vendor/contractor to provide precious metal recovery services. Currently JAHVH utilizes approximately 4 electrophysiology catheters per day (approximately 1000 per year). 4. Performance Period: The contractor shall complete the recycling/recovery services outlined above in this SOW, within 30 calendar days or less from date the precious metal containing, disposable medical equipment, is mailed from JAHVH. This includes payment to JAHVH, for funds recovered through recycling this disposable medical equipment at the rate agreed upon in the prospective contract (minimum of 70% of value of metal). JAHVH will make shipments of sterilized electrophysiology catheters and/or other sterilized disposable medical equipment containing precious metals to the prospective contractor on a monthly basis. The precious metal recovery shall begin within 30 calendar days of award, unless otherwise specified. The contract shall be for a period of 1 year with an optional 1 year extension at the end of each term. 5. Location of performance: The work will occur at the contractor's designated site for recovery of metals. JAHVH will ship sterilized packages of the aforementioned materials in pre-paid mailing packages/containers, provided by the contractor. 6. Invoicing: JAHVH will incur no costs in this arrangement, the prospective contractor will provide payment for funds recovered through recycling this disposable medical equipment at the rate agreed upon in the prospective contract (minimum of 70% of value of metal), within 30 days of date JAHVH makes a shipment. Additionally, the vendor will provide documentation of the amount of catheters processed and their calculation for reimbursement.
