- Description
- This contract for a follow-on effort to the Lightweight Ceramic Armor Program to continue development and scale-up of the Plasma Pressure Compaction (P2C) ceramic consolidation technology and testing of ceramic-based body armor systems produced using this unconventional ceramic processing technique. The contractor will further develop and demonstrate a unique procedure for producing high-density, curved ceramic plates up to 7" x 8" in size. The high-performance ceramic tiles will be integrated into a proprietary hybrid composite armor system and will be tested to meet Army ballistic specifications. The contractor will be required to demonstrate a consistent ceramic consolidation process featuring reduced time and temperature in comparison to conventional consolidation approaches. This scaled P2C system will allow for consolidation of both nano- and submicron-sized powders.
