Description
The U.S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau is in need of request for information (RFI) for Event Planner for Women Veterans Who Are Homeless Outreach Initiative/Stand Downs program. The Women's Bureau, one of the oldest agencies within the U. S. Department of Labor, was created by Congress on June 5, 1920 to "formulate standards and policies which shall promote the welfare of wage-earning women, improve their working conditions, increase their efficiency, and advance their opportunities for profitable employment." The Women's Bureau has been meeting this mandate by identifying the issues working women care about most and vigorously pioneering research and programs to address them. Secretary Solis's vision - for FY 2010 and beyond - is good jobs for everyone. This includes assisting the population of women veterans who are homeless and those who have been out of the labor market find a path to good jobs. The Women's Bureau has the opportunity to become an integral part in changing/reducing the complexity of issues affecting women veterans who are homeless. The Women's Bureau Region VI relies on community partnerships and collaboration to help accomplish our goals and thus is pleased to enter into such relationships to plan and convene a stand down event for women veterans. Hosting a stand-down is a vehicle for mobilizing community resources for women veterans. Outreach for the stand-down will be designed to help ensure equitable access to federal and state veterans' services and resources available in the community to assist women veterans. The stand down will be held in Dallas, Texas. The stand-down will address barriers women veterans encounter as a result of a lack of information and access to resources, and will connect directly with women veterans. The stand-down event is designed to encourage women veterans to take action to enhance their lives by using information and resources from organizations that will participate in the stand-down event.
