- Description
- Amendment 0004 to RFP FA8629-11-R-2317 is a reply to a question submitted on 18 Apr 2011: Question: Reference the revised Performance Work Statement (PWS) dated 11 April 2011, Section J, Attachment 1, Sections 1.1 and 1.5.1: PWS stipulates (Section 1.1) that all aerial refueling contacts will be "Dry" plugs, defined as "no fuel transferred." If this is the case, how is it expected that there will be "...fuel spray that typically occurs at disconnect..."? Is it intended that the hose will be "charged," i.e. filled with fuel? If so, what mechanism will be used to assure no fuel is transferred to the receiver aircraft? ANSWER: Fuel loading on the hose is sufficiently significant to catenary curve and hose response, so surrogate flight testing will be done with a charged refueling hose. If the receiver (aircraft) keeps their aerial refueling check valve CLOSED, there should be no fuel transfer.
