- Description
- NOTE: This RFI was posted to seek sources of HPAs. Except for the specifications already posted, we have not established any other specifications. We are interested in learning about any HPA capabilities higher than the minimum as well as any capabilities/specifications not specifically listed. This RFI is to help us learn what devices/capabilities/specifications are available on the market now. The system that will potentially use the HPAs has not been designed yet. The purpose of the RFI is to identify what is currently available in all types of HPAs and then use that information to design a system that has a HPA that is generally COTS. Q1. Request some clarification of the vibrations section of the RFI. We have shipped products to the Navy in the past, and the vibration specification seems to be out of family. Is the intent of the spec 0.4G2/Hz(approx. 20Grms), not 0.04G2/Hz(Approx. 2 Grms) or something similar, which is more typical A1. The 0.04g2/Hz and its equivalent 2 Grms is the intended spec. Please include any higher capabilities of your products in the RFI response. The vibration spec of 0.4g2/Hz is changed to : 0.04g2/Hz Q2. Can any light be shed on the application of these HPA's, i.e. the shipboard use or intended uses. Is this just to add to a repertoire of off the shelf products. Since they are asking for a ROM is there a bracket that they prefer? A2. Shipboard use. No preference, need to know what is available. No budget has been established. Q3. Is a more detailed specification available that would define the topics listed below. Prime Power, Source Voltage, Overall Efficiency, Harmonics, Size, Weight, Available Coolant (conduction, liquid, etc); And if the amplifier sought can be either/or a TWT or MPM. A3. No Specifications have been established outside of those already published. The amplifier could be either the TWT or MPM. Q4. In reviewing the specs for the 6-18 GHz. HPA RFI there is no mention of the load VSWR that the HPA has to operate into without being damaged. Do you have a number for this or can I assume a VSWR of 3.0:1 Max. without damage? A4. We do not currently have a specification for VSWR established. You can assume a max VSWR of 3:1 for the load if that is the highest VSWR your HPA can operate into without being damaged. Q5. Could you please provide clarification pertaining to the Mechanical Characteristic "RF Output Connector" which in the solicitation is stated as "RF Output Connector //Waveguide, TNC". One could interpret this as meaning there is no "Desired" only an "Acceptable" characteristic defined. A5. That is correct, there is no preference for a "Desired" specification on the RF Output Connector. The system that will potentially use the HPAs has not been designed yet. The purpose of the RFI is to identify what is currently available in all types of HPAs. Q6. If NRL were to award a FFP contract, would the award occur within the next 1 to 2 years, 2 to 3 years or would it be beyond 3 years? A6. We have not yet identified a timeline. The purpose of the RFI is to identify what is currently available in all types of HPAs.
