- Description
- "TRACE Conservation and Closure Model Development." (RES-11-090) The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) intends to enter into a sole source contract with John Marvin Inc, for work related to the development of improved conservation equation and dispersed field models for the TRACE code. This work will include, but not be limited to: • Incorporating the dispersed droplet field(s) into the conservation equations • Developing and implementing droplet closure relationships (entrainment and deposition models, enhanced heat transfer, etc.) for all flow regimes and geometries • Performing code robustness and stability improvements related to the droplet models Secondly, John Marvin, Inc., will develop and implement into the TRACE code a fully-conservative formulation of the momentum equation. This work will include, but not be limited to: • Implementing a fully-conservative formulation of the momentum equation into TRACE for both 1-D and 3-D components, using both the semi-implicit and SETS solution methods • Performing code robustness and stability improvements related to the fully-conservative momentum equations John Marvin, Inc., is the only commercially available source that is uniquely qualified to perform the proposed work under this requirement. Firstly, John Marvin, Inc., will perform TRACE development work to improve the new droplet field modeling capability of the code. This contract is aimed at updating some of the base structure of how the code functions, so only an expert in the field of code development who has dealt with the same issues in other similar computer codes would be capable of implementing the correct approach and understanding the pitfalls of those approaches. Utilizing a contractor with less experience would inevitably result in a protracted effort and, perhaps, substandard performance of the TRACE code. The period of performance will be thirty six (36) months from the date of award. This is not a request for competitive proposals. Requests for copies of this solicitation will not be honored unless the respondent provides evidence showing their capability to perform the required services. Inquiries regarding this announcement may be made to Daniel App, Contract Specialist by phone at (301) 492-3606 or via e-mail at Daniel.App@nrc.gov. See Numbered Note 22.
