Description
I.Introduction PM TRADE, in support of the PEO STRI, is soliciting industry, government, and academic participation related to the realization of several architectural evolution strategies across the live, virtual, or constructive training domains. These strategies, which include service-oriented architecture (SOA), cloud computing, and virtualization, are capable of improving the interoperability of current and future training systems. The software product-line architecture (PLA) framework paradigm has proven successful in minimizing stovepipe system development, and reducing system life-cycle cost and schedule. However, as the DoD and Army strive to further reduce system life-cycle costs, and as technology improves, software PLAs must evolve further to align with future acquisition strategies and more easily adapt to advanced technology concepts. A 2-day workshop will consist of an information session and facilitated discussion that will address future training architecture needs and strategies. The workshop will be held in Orlando, FL at the Partnership III building in conference room 321A/B on 3 May and 4 May, 2011 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. Additional details will follow. II.Objective The key objective of this workshop is to initiate collaboration and technical exchange between industry, government, and academia involved with SOA, cloud computing, and virtualization activities within training or related initiatives. The workshop will inform stakeholders on current training issues, and architectural strategy concepts, design principles and patterns, governance, infrastructure, relevant standards, and best practices. III.Agenda Day 1: Tuesday, 03 May 0800-1200 - Check-in, information session, and guest speakers 1200-1300 - Lunch 1300-1700 - Working group sessions Day 2: Wednesday, 04 May 0800-1200 - Working group sessions 1200-1300 - Lunch 1300-1700 - Working group out-briefs and wrap-up *A detailed agenda will be provided before the workshop. IV.Survey 1.What experience do you have with each of the following? a.SOAs b.Cloud computing c.Virtualization 2.If you currently have a product(s)/project(s)/research relevant to any or all of the three architectural paradigms listed above,... a.What is/are the name(s) of the product(s)/project(s)/research initiatives? b.Provide a brief description of the product(s)/project(s)/research that includes: i.System design; ii.Operation and technical characteristics including performance requirements; iii.Information Assurance (IA) and security challenges and solutions; iv.How the system is currently being utilized and by whom. c.What challenges did you identify during system implementation and how were they resolved? d.How are you using the "cloud" to enable mobile application development and availability? e.What direction are these paradigms driving technology, capabilities, and business models in the future? V.Response When responding, please provide the following information and RSVP for the workshop via email to steven.d.horvath@us.army.mil and marie.bittikofer@us.army.mil by COB 1 April. Responses are limited to a maximum of 3 pages, excluding the cover sheet and supplementary product brochures and specifications. Please note that an RSVP is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Space is limited. 1.Organization Name 2.Participants information (Name, Title, Address, Phone/Fax, Email) 3.Of the following 8 concept areas, choose 3 that you are primarily interested in: SOA Principles and Technology Cloud Computing Principles and Technology Virtualization Principles and Technology Information Assurance and Security Technology Insertion and Migration Strategy Mobile Applications and Wireless Networks Standards, Policies, and Processes Live, Virtual, or Constructive Training Challenges and Benefits 4.Number of Workshop Participants (limited to 3 per organization) 5.Main Organization Point of Contact (Name, Title, Address, Phone/Fax, Email) 6.Section IV survey feedback 7.Any other questions or comments you may have regarding this effort
