Description
BAA-11-08-PKM CDRLs BAA-11-08-PKM Statement of Objectives Broad Agency Announcement - BAA-11-08-PKM The contractor shall research, develop, assemble, test, install, and validate operation of an up to 1 MegaWatt (MW), state -of-the-art prototype photovoltaic (PV) system that uses thin film amorphous silicon technology incorporated in tandem junction solar PV cells at the base distribution requirements. In addition, the contractor shall design and incorporate the system such that power generated by the system will continue to supply power to the base in the event of a public utility power grid failure. During normal operations of the system and utility grid, all power generated by the system shall be monitored, measured and recorded. Therefore, the prototype PV system will provide power to the base and only to the base in the event of a public utility grid failure. This capability shall be of a highly reliable rugged design in which electric power, 365 days a year, twenty-four (24) hours a day will be supplied in an environmentally friendly manner. This shall be demonstrated over a time period To Be Determined (TBD) after the contract is awarded and is expected to be for up to 30 days of continuous operation. This prototype system is the first of an integrated secure autonomous base power design, using low cost amorphous solar cell technology, and is to be a "full scale test bed" that will provide the basis for testing and evaluating integrated low cost PV and supporting power integration technologies. It is anticipated that future renewable base power systems will incorporate technology developed and demonstrated by this program. It is anticipated that this effort may be expanded in the future to produce power greater than 1 MW or explore other alternative energy technologies. The capability of this prototype system to expand and incorporate electric storage technology and other forms of alternative energy is anticipated and should be considered in the design.
