- Programmer/Analyst - Epilepsy Center of Excellence (ECoE) The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, has requirement for a Programmer/Analyst in the Neurology Care Line. The programmer/analyst will be required to develop an electronic infrastructure that is interoperable within our current information systems to support analysis of clinical data, outcomes management, and clinical decision support tools. While the need for an electronic support infrastructure in Neurology Care Line is wide, the recent funding of an Epilepsy Center of Excellence provides a framework to develop this support systems within the context of epilepsy and brain injury. High-level programming and software development skill are required to establish electronic support systems for the Epilepsy Center. A Programmer/Analyst position is requested and will require the following skill sets as stated in Statement of WorK: 1. Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations. 2. Knowledge of SQL programming and relational databases. 3. Knowledge of Text Integration Utilities. 4. Knowledge of Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) and File Manager and experience with MUMPS (Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi-Programming System) programming. 5. Knowledge of and experience with SAS for data manipulation and statistical analysis. 6. Skill in conducting detailed analyses of complex functions and work processes. 7. Interpersonal skills in presenting analyses of complex functions and work processes. The primary role of the Programmer/Analyst for the Epilepsy Center of Excellence will be development of electronic infrastructure to support analysis of clinical data, outcomes management, and clinical decision support tools. In addition to development, the Programmer/Analyst will perform the following tasks: 1. Data mining: run queries needed in this project; will also help refine queries related to SQL programming through data warehouse 2. Write code using VistA MUMPS and FileManager programming as needed 3. Write code SAS programming for data manipulation and statistical analysis as needed 4. R programming for data manipulation and statistical analysis as needed 5. Work closely with the IT staff at MEDVAMC for prototype template and decision support development 6. Work closely with national initiatives related to Neurology and Epilepsy programs 7. Work with the VISN 16 data warehouse closely on data and query related issues. 8. Perform analytical and evaluative work associated with project activities. 9. Evaluate processes or makes recommendations for data mining and/or SQL programming for project activities. 10. Develop detailed plans, goals, and objectives for the analyses required for the project. The Programmer/Analyst contractor must have excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to generate clear and comprehensive analyses. Evidence of previous contribution to manuscripts related to informatics as evidenced by authorship or acknowledgment in articles published in medical journals is required. One years experience as a programmer/analyst is a must. All work for this project will be conducted behind the VA firewall - programmer must be able to work on a regular basis on site.
