- W91247-11-T-0010 (Wheelchair Questions and Answers) Question 1. Handrail finish: The architect specified a 'satin finish', but aluminum is generally produced with a 'mill finish'. Is that acceptable? Yes Question 2. Handrail: Options for mounting the handrail: posts may be embedded in the floor slab (with or without a cover flange), surface mounted with a heavy-duty floor flange, or side mounted on fascia or stringer by means of a fascia flange. Are these all acceptable options? Core drilled or embedded in the slab is what we are looking for. Question 2a. Are the pickets square? Are tubular pickets acceptable? The drawings call for " by " pickets that are square. Tubular pickets are acceptable. Question 3. Is the site accessible to a concrete truck without using a pump truck? Yes Question 4. Door: May the existing door be removed for repainting? How would the facility be securely protected while the door is off the hinges? Is this the contractors' responsibility to install a temporary door? The door can be removed for repainting and the contractor is responsible to put the door back up or provide a temporary means of securing the entrance. Question 5. Door: Would it be acceptable to sand any surface rust, spot prime and touch-up paint the door without removing it? No; Scope of work states that the door shall be sanded and painted completely regardless of whether it is removed or not. Question 6. Door: The existing threshold is handicapped accessible, why the need to replace it? The Scope of Work calls for replacement. Question 7. Will we be able to coordinate with the facility manager and the EIFS contractor to allow us to work simultaneously? Yes Question 8. Is it required that we place a portable restroom for our crews or are facilities available? Facilities are available. Question 9. Can all of the debris removed during demo and construction be trucked to the landfill on base? Yes; The successful contractor will be given instructions at pre-construction briefing on that matter. Question 10. If fill is required, where does it come from? On base? Are there specific rules about the fill dirt used? On base resources are preferred to be utilized. Further info will given at pre-construction brief. Question 11. Ramp surface: Is a brushed concrete surface acceptable? Yes Question 12. Please allow me to ask two last questions: Is work allowed to continue past 4 pm if the concrete finishing is still in process? Yes / Must be approved by the COR. Question 13. In order to minimize disruption to the facility occupants, would work be allowed on Saturdays? It will be at the COR's discretion. Question 14. Is the existing concrete stoop solid concrete? Unknown Question 15. What level of site restoration will be required? The work site shall be restored to original condition after completion of work. Question 16. Are there any conflicts with utilities in the area of work? The successful contractor shall have a completed and approved DPW Excavation Permit in his possession prior to any excavation, including sign or fence-post holes. The Contractor shall schedule an appointment to locate utility lines at least 10 working days prior to any excavation with the DPW Operations and Maintenance Division, Building 3-1634, Butner Road. This will be accomplished by submitting a Facilities Maintenance Division Service Order. Service Orders are obtained by calling 910-396-0321, or making the request on-line at http://www.bragg.army/mil/dpw. This will all be discussed at the pre-construction briefing. Question 17. Do we need landfill permits and can we use the landfill on base? Yes; The info on where to obtain permits will be put out to the successful contractor at the pre-construction briefing. Question 18. Do we need an excavation permit, and if so what is involved with that? See question 16. Question 19. Will there be any tree and or shrub removal? No; If removal is unavoidable, COR will give guidance. Question 20. How does the concrete ramp transition to the EFIS wall finish? Ramp shall have a minimum clearance of 4" from EFIS. Question 21. Is there a concrete mix specification, or are we using 3000psi exterior and submitting out own mix design? 3,000 psi reinforced Question 22. Can the door be opened to sand and paint, or do we need to plan on tenting an area around the door on the interior so that our work doesn't interfere with the person's working in that area? The door can be opened. Question 23. Are the handrails powdercoated a color or are they a natural finish? Natural finish Question 24. Is the handrail next to building wall mounted? No; All railing will be core drilled or embedded in the concrete. Question 25. Who is responsible for moving bench? I am not aware of a bench that is to be moved Question 26. Will the contractor be responsible for any damage to existing tree if root are damaged while installing footings? Not if damage is unavoidable due to area limitation. Question 27. Who will be responsible for having the area located for utilities? See question 16 Question 28. Will the area have to be re-seeded? It states: it is to restored to original condition it appeared not to have any grass or sod during the site visit. The area is to be restored as the successful contractor finds it upon beginning work. Question 29. How much, if any will the excavation permit cost? No Cost Question 30. Will the MICC provide a place to haul demolished concrete? Yes; That information will be put out at the pre-construction briefing. See question 17
