- THIS IS AN INFORMATIONAL SYNOPSIS TO ANNOUNCE THE BINATIONAL BORDER SANITATION AND WATER QUALITY SUMMIT IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS ON MARCH 16, 2011 THRU MARCH 18, 2011. The purpose of the summit is to understand and evaluate the current sanitation conditions along the United States-Mexico border, in order to identify and promote actions that would allow for improvement and expansion of service coverage to all border residents. Understand the existing sanitation infrastructure in United States-Mexico border cities in order to evaluate its performance and identify and promote actions to improve and expand service along the border. Understand and evaluate current efforts to address factors that impact water quality along the U.S.-Mexico Border in order to provide residents with safe water. Objectives of the summit include evaluating the existing sanitation infrastructure in the cities along the United States-Mexico border to identify activities and funding aimed at increasing the level of service coverage, presenting and sharing experiences with planning, implementation and operation of sanitation infrastructure in the United States and Mexico, in order to identify needs, failures, successes, potential future joint actions that would allow for substantial improvement and expansion of service for border residents in both countries and develop the framework for binational cooperative efforts to improve water quality and sanitation conditions in border cities and establish technical support to address policies enacted by both countries on this matter. Presenters will include members of the Federal, State and Municipal Government, International Organizations, other Federal and Border Agencies, Utility Operators and Research and Educational Institutions. The US International Boundary and Water Commission - Mexican Section has acquired the services of a program event coordinator to manage the event, including registration of interested participants and exhibitors. The summit will include available space for up to twenty (20) exhibitors. Exhibitors will be selected on a first come, first served basis. There are also 125 participant spaces available to interested U.S. companies interested in attending. Companies experienced in levee and dam construction, engineering, vendors providing telemetry equipment, water measurement, GIS services, sanitation equipment and pumps are but a few of the resources we hope will take part in this event. There is a nominal fee administered by the USIBWC Mexican Section which is required for participants and a non-refundable fee for exhibitors.
