The SLD Program accomplishes its critical global security mission by forming cooperative relationships with partner countries to install passive radiaiton detection systems that augment traditional inspection and law enforcement measures by alerting border officials to the presence of special nuclear or other radiological materials in cross-border traffic. An important tenet of the program is to work collaboratively with these countries to establish the necessary processes, procedures, infrastruture and conditions that will enable them to fully assume the financial and technical responsibilities for operating the equipment. The equipment is required to operate continuously, often at remote locations with diminshed infrastructure. In order to promote maximum operation savailability there must be a maintenance competency and a commensurate inventory of spare parts and consumables. As the number of operational deployments grows, the SLD program faces an increasingly complex logistics process to assu timely and efficient supply of spare parts. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has been designated by DOE-SLD to work closely with partner countries to jointly develop sustainability plans that are designed to ensure installed radiation detection systems remain effective not only throughout the sustainability period, but also once partner countries ssume full responsibility fro the performance of the systems. PNNL has indentified the need to find an independent orgranization with special subject matter expertiese that will serve as a technical consultant in teh area of service parts supply chain support. The objective of the Parts/Logistics consultant is to review the current needs of the SLD program, regarding the supply of spare parts and provide recommendations for assuring the timely supply of spare parts.
