Description
Geotechnical Engineering Report 65% CD Drawings Volume 2-C Request for Qualification Statement 65% CD Drawings Volume 2-B 65% CD Drawings Volume 2-A Outline Specifications The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute ("SCBI") is the research arm of the Smithsonian's National Zoo. Its headquarters is located in Front Royal (Warren County), Virginia, on approximately 3,200 acres of federal land, comprised of pasture, timber, animal enclosures, and a densely developed core of early twentieth century buildings. SCBI conducts research on endangered species, conservation ecology, evolutionary genetics, species survival, animal care and nutrition. Several active breeding programs are housed on site. Many scientific and educational programs are currently undertaken through partnerships with other governmental and non-governmental entities. In October 2008, the Smithsonian Institution ("SI") and George Mason University ("GMU") signed a Memorandum of Agreement ("MOU") establishing the "Smithsonian-Mason Conservation Education Program" ("Program"). The MOU between SI and GMU commits both parties to providing an accredited educational program and facilities to house the Program. This Program will enhance and expand the National Zoological Park's long history of providing educational classes and professional training for the next generation of conservation and scientific professionals. New construction and major revitalization of an existing structure will provide code-compliant, LEED-certified facilities to house residential and educational functions. SI will renovate and expand an existing structure (Building 701-0116 in the Post Area) for the education facility, as well as upgrade site utility systems to support the project and on-going operations. GMU will construct new residential and food service facilities on SCBI land via a ground lease with SI. The goal is to open the facilities in time for the start of the summer 2012 semester. The work to be addressed through this Solicitation No. F11SOL10010 ("Solicitation") includes the renovation and expansion of an existing building in the Post Area of the site as well as Phase 1a of the Utilities Master Plan upgrade. The construction of the residential and food service facilities is NOT included in this Solicitation. Interested qualified firms are invited to submit Qualification Statements to be delivered to the Smithsonian Institution, Office of Contracting & Personal Property Management, 2011 Crystal Drive, Suite 350, Arlington, VA 22202, Attention: Lawana L. Bryant; OR mailed to Smithsonian Institution, Office of Contracting & Personal Property Management, P.O. Box 37012 MRC 1200, Washington, DC 20013-7012, Attention: Lawana L. Bryant, by no later than 4:00 PM on January 13, 2011. Failure to submit a complete package will render the submission unacceptable. Faxed submissions will NOT be accepted. Preface submission with an attached original loose copy brief letter on company letterhead. The Smithsonian Institution will dispose of submitted materials sixty (60) days after receipt. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS.
