- The Vector Electric and Magnetic Field Investigation (VEMFI) instrument team at theNASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is developing a proposal to provide a DC and waveelectric field detector and magnetometer on a GSFC-led Explorer proposal named ASTRE. The proposal will be submitted in response to the NASA Explorer Announcement ofOpportunity (AO) NNH11ZDA002O.The AO was released on November 1, 2010 with proposalsdue on February 16, 2011. This partnership opportunity will establish an agreement between GSFC and Industry toprovide for deployable electric field booms that will constitute part of the GoddardVEMFI instrument and, if selected, part of the GSFC VEMFI investigation as part of theGoddard-led Explorer.For the portion of this partnership that involves the preparation of the first step ofthis proposal in response to the AO, there shall be no exchange of funds between thepartners. NASA funding will be available for subsequent phases, should the ASTREproposal be selected to proceed to Phase A.Potential respondents are asked to contact the VEMFI team within one week after releaseof this document. This response shall not be considered binding, but shall serve to helpthe VEMFI team disseminate all relevant information to potential partners. Questions canbe asked during the first week after release of this document.All questions and answerswill be sent to those who express a desire to respond, while the source of the questionsshall be held confidential.
