- Description
- N EEDLE is a federated search engine which enables scientists and researchers to simultaneously search through multiple sources, each with its own search protocol. NEEDLE has joined web searching, federation, search algorithms, customization, facets, taxonomies, enriched web search tools, web indexing, Internet and Intranet integration, email searching, repository searching and many other leading edge technology tools into a single interface. But most importantly, we have kept the interface user friendly and easy to use. With a flexible search interface NEEDLE allows end users to select any available data source. The interface has easy controls that allow for a single search to generate results from multiple sources. For example, a user can simultaneously search commercial databases (i.e. Web of Science, Engineering Index, OSTI, etc.), external resources (i.e. WorldCat, Google, Bing, Yahoo News etc.), and internal corporate resources (i.e. email, library collections, etc.). All resources are located in a single interface with one search query - allowing the user to see search results dynamically broken down into a topics list relative to the search subject. The topics list allows the user to easily navigate to the desired results, as well as identify more targeted and/or relevant search terms. The INL is soliciting interest from qualified industrial firms interested in participating in projects and commercializing this technology. The INL invites interested parties to contact us regarding the details of licensing and implementing this technology. Interested parties should respond on or before January 1, 2011. For questions regarding the technology, licensing, and working with the INL, please contact Jason Stolworthy at 208 526-5976 or E-mail: Jason.stolworthy@inl.gov.
