- ***The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with FEI Company, of Hillsboro, OR for the purchase of a service agreement for a Nova Nanolab 600 Focused Ion Beam SEM. ***Sole Source determination is based on the following: FEI Company is the only contractor who can provide a Maintenance /Service Contract for the Nova Nanolab 600 Focused Ion Beam SEM. No other vendor is authorized to maintain the equipment because of the proprietary nature of the equipment with regard to the system and software. The maintenance of the instrument is crucial due to the highly utilized support of a wide range of project areas including nanoEHS, climate change, fate of nanoparticles, nanowire growth studies and semiconductor device characterizations. ***Place of Performance shall be Gaithersburg, MD.*** ***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees.*** ***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will consider responses received by December 02, 2010*** A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
