- Description
- To be used as a example of a similar project ONLY Bruin & Sponge Creek AOP Synopsis The Umatilla National Forest will be advertising two Aquatic Organism Passage Improvement projects for implementation in 2011. The following projects may be combined under the same advertisement. Project Name: Bruin & Sponge Creek Aquatic Organism Passages Project Locations: Bruin Creek: Approximately 75 miles south of Pendleton, OR. Take Exit 209 on Interstate 84 and head south on U.S. Hwy 395 for 61.3 miles. Turn left onto Forest Road 55 and continue.7 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road 10. Continue on Forest Road 10 for 12.51 miles and arrive at Bruin Creek. Sponge Creek: Follow directions above to Bruin Creek. From Bruin Creek, continue on Forest Road 10 for 5.2 miles and arrive at Sponge Creek. Project Start Date: The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) in-stream work window for these locations is July 15th to August 15th. Work that has no influence on the stream can begin prior to the in-stream work window. All in-stream work must be completed within this work window. Any time extension of the in-stream work window must be approved by ODFW. Project Background Bruin Creek passes under Forest Road 10 through a corrugated metal pipe (CMP) with a horizontal dimension of 72" and a vertical dimension of 82". The CMP is approximately 102.2' in length. This structure currently is a barrier to T&E and native fish. Sponge Creek passes under Forest Road 10 through a 78" CMP that is approximately 64.1' long. This structure currently is a barrier to T&E and native fish. Project Description: Work at both of these sites includes the removal of the above mentioned existing culverts and the installation of a precast/prefabricated structure. Also included is stream simulation work in the channel. This work includes placing rock for steps and streambed. De-watering is required for these projects. This includes re-directing the creek for the duration of the project and installing erosion and pollution controls devices during installation of the new structures and stream simulation work. The Umatilla National Forest intends on advertising these projects during the winter months so that adequate time will be given to the awarded contractor to acquire the appropriate materials and be prepared to complete all work within the allotted in-stream work window. For this reason it is strongly recommended that all interested/prospective contractors visit each site before they become inaccessible due to weather. Attached are plans from similar projects that have been completed in the same general area. The Battle Creek site in the attached plans is similar to the Bruin Creek site and the Lucas Gulch site in the plans is similar to the Sponge Creek site. Note: These drawings are to be used as an example only. It is strongly recommended that all interested parties visit each site. When this posted as a solicitation the solicitation number will change.
