- As part of an ongoing BRAC Main Post Infrastructure project, Gunston Road is being widened by an additional two lanes. As a result of this road widening project and to comply with antiterrorism force protection (AT FP) criteria, the existing Arts and Crafts Center does not meet adequate setback requirements and is to be demolished. The demolition of the existing Arts and Crafts Center is not part of this contract. This contract includes the construction of a new 10,000 SF single story pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) system of approximately 72 LF by 144 LF and is located at the corner of 3rd Street and Gunston Road on Main Post Fort Belvoir. The new Arts and Crafts Center consists of a woodworking, framing, stained glass workshops, trophy shop, mechanical and electrical room, Directors Office, storage, janitors closet, and restrooms. The north, east and south faade of the buildings are to be steel stub clad assembly clad in brick and split-faced CMU veneer the west faade is the standard PEMB insulated metal wall panel and split-faced CMU wainscot and the roofing system is single slope metal standing seam with 4inch rigid insulation with an interior metal liner panel. Windows shall be aluminum framed with structural steel back-up to meet anti-terrorism/force protection blast requirements. Interior partitions include painted gypsum wallboard with metal studs and ceramic tiles on walls and floor in the bathrooms. The floors are primarily sealed stained concrete except for resilient floor tile in the Directors Office, Trophy Shop, and corridors. New utilities for fire protection, potable water, electrical power, telecommunication and gas service will be need to be extended to the new facility in coordination with the Fort Belvoir water, wastewater, gas, electrical and gas privatization contractors. Wastewater will be discharge to a new lift station being constructed as part of the on-going Gunston Road widening project. Parking is provided by preserving a portion of the existing asphalt parking lot. Other improvements includes the reconfiguration of the storm water drainage system the expansion of the parking area with new fencing and gate at the adjacent CID building.
