Description
Solicitation APHIS-S-10-442051 was cancelled due to the fact that there were no small businesses manufactures located that could produce a product equal to what was requested. There were four models considered for this liquid handling instrumentation: the Thermo Scientific Hydra DT, BioSprint, Apricot i-Pipette Pro, and the Rainin Liquidator. The decision was made to purchase the Rainin Liquidator LIQ-96-200 2EA LIQ-96-200 @ $11,196.00 = $22,392.00 2EA Service Agreement @ $ 3,930.00 = $ 7,860.00 Total $30,252.00 The criteria we used for selection of the most appropriate model was based on: ( 1) performance (accuracy) of tasks as needed by the science we perform. ( 2) ease of use in daily operations ( 3) brand reputation, and (4) cost. liquid handling system will be used to pipet small quantities of reagents in a molecular lab as part of DNA isolation and amplification protocols. We require a system that pipets 96 individual channels of liquids from plastic plates with 96 tiny tubes used in the development of methods for examining DNA. This instrument will increase our throughput since at this time we pipet liquids with 1 and/or at most 8 channel, hand-held instrumentation. The level of accuracy is important and all three instruments satisfy this criteria. Each performed well during their respective demo. The Rainin Liquidator did not require any programming since it is a manual system. The two other instruments require that individual pipetting steps be entered into a program routine. So, ease of use is also satisfied with the Rainin Liquidator. Technicians do not need to program the instrument. Settings can be changed through a dial type knob which changes the settings for volumes. It is a simple, yet accurate instrument that fits the needs of the lab.
