- Description
- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION Thin Computing/Desktop Virtualization Pilot Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Acquisition and Logistics, Technology Acquisition Center Eatontown, New Jersey 07724 This is a Request for Information (RFI)/Sources Sought notice issued in accordance with FAR 15.201(e) to conduct market research. This RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposes - it does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue a RFP in the future. This request for information does not commit the Government to contract for any supply or service whatsoever. The VA is not, at this time, seeking proposals and will not accept unsolicited proposals. Responders are advised that the U.S. Government will not pay for any information or administrative costs incurred in response to this RFI; all costs associated with responding to this RFI will be solely at the interested vendor's expense. Not responding to this RFI does not preclude participation in any future RFP, if any is issued. Any information submitted by respondents to this RFI is strictly voluntary. All submissions become Government property and will not be returned. This RFI is to solicit information in the form of white papers, regarding the current state of the art architectural and planning considerations for Thin Computing/Desktop Virtualization/Cloud computing architectures. The VA will be establishing a pilot effort to implement a related architecture at a selected Veteran Integrated Service Network (VISN) consisting of approximately 20,000 end points spread amongst six Medical Centers and roughly 29 outlying clinics and other staff support. The purpose of the pilot is to evaluate the architecture as implemented, understand the issues (security, user segmentation, implementation, management) over a diverse set of users within a significant service network with the goal of applying lessons learned to a possible national effort. VA is not interested in information from resellers of software/hardware related products. The white papers should merely be focused on the current state of the technology in terms of benefits, security concerns/improvements, software and hardware management, user segmentation levels all with the goal of providing a secure, manageable, and cost effective architecture with respect to the pilot. Submit a white paper or related information via email to the Project Manager for this effort at VA.TCDV@portal.VA.GOV by 4:00 Eastern Standard Time on October 22, 2010. The submitted materials will be loaded onto a Share Portal site for review by participants of the working group. Please do not plan on submitting any materials of a restricted nature or that would require a non-disclosure agreement. All information submitted shall be marked non-proprietary. The project team consists of VA personnel from Engineering, Networking, Security, Operations and IT Management domains. White papers should also include a short summary of your company's business/developments in this area and current deployments. Also, please submit the name, phone number, and email address of the lead from your organization. VA reserves the right to not respond to any or all emails or materials submitted.
